HIGHLIGHTS
Ortahisar Panorama: Ortahisar Castle is the highest point of the region after Uçhisar Castle. The Turks captured Ortahisar Castle with the Battle of Manzikert in 1071. However, the Anatolian Seljuks and then the Ottomans used this Ortahisar Castle for defense purposes.
Mustafapaşa Old Greek Village: Mustafapaşa Town was a place where Greeks lived until the Population Exchange between Turkey and Greece in 1924. During the population exchange, the Greeks in Turkey were immigrated to Greece, and the Turks in Greece were immigrated to Turkey. Turks currently live in Mustafapaşa Town. During the short walk we will take in the village, you will have the opportunity to see the structures of Greek architecture.
Keslik Monastery: Keşlik Monastery is the only monastery in Cappadocia that can accommodate 200 people. While visiting the two churches, the refectory, the holy water temple and the school in this magnificent monastery complex, you will have the opportunity to see the areas where the Monks and Priests live. Stephanos Church is one of the most important structures of Keşlik Monastery.
Taskinpasa Madrasah: Since Taşkınpaşa Madrasa does not have an epitaph, the exact date of construction is not known, but considering the dates and architectural decoration techniques in the inscription in its complex, it is estimated that the building belongs to the 14th century. Today, it continues to be used under the name of Taşkınpaşa Public Library.
Sobessos Ancient City: The ancient city of Sobessos, whose location could not be determined although its name was mentioned in ancient sources, was found by accident in 2002 by a few people who were doing illegal excavations in Cappadocia. In the center of the city, there is a meeting hall from the 4th to the 5th centuries. In the middle of the hall, a chapel was built in the 6th century with the same stones as the building. This meeting place has 2 rooms and a big hall and the floor is completely decorated with mosaics.
Soğanlı Valley: Soğanlı Valley has been one of the important episcopacy centers of Cappadocia since the fourth century. The importance of the valley continued until the 6th century. It is an episcopal center with houses carved into the rocks, churches and tombs. It offers a unique view with its lush green appearance in the summer months.
Kaymaklı Underground City: The history of Kaymaklı Underground City, some of which was built during the Hittite period, dates back to 3000 years ago. It has become an eight-storey venue as a result of its excavation and expansion in the Roman and Byzantine periods. Kaymaklı Underground City, which contains all the facilities that a community can live in temporarily, contains structures such as living rooms, food warehouses, water wells and ventilation tunnels connected by narrow tunnels.
Pigeon Valley Panorama: There are dovecotes carved into the rocks along this 4 km long valley from Uçhisar to Göreme. It got its name from these dovecotes. While the people living in the past used the manure of the pigeons they kept here for agricultural purposes, they also used the pigeon eggs in the paints used for the frescoes they painted inside the rock-hewn churches.
Göreme Panorama: It is a panoramic spot where you can see examples of rock formations from the top of Göreme Town, while your guide explains the general history of Cappadocia and the development process of the rock formations.
